This three day course is designed to lead students in a logical progression through the steps and knowledge necessary to carry out an IFR flight. It is intended to help students prepare for the IFR INRAT exam and show pilots the practical world of instrument flying. This course provides a solid foundation in all the practical and theoretical aspects of IFR flight. The course is further enhanced by our instructors actual IFR experiences.
Course content
- CARs and airspace classifications
- IFR MINIMA, take-off, approach, landing and alternate
- Canada Air Pilot approach plates, LO charts
- IFR flight planning
- IFR departure, terminal and approach procedures
- IFR procedures, holds, approach entries, contact and visual approaches, etc.
- Basic Met theory and practical Met including aviation forecasts, reports and charts
- Introduction to thunderstorms, airborne weather radar, and wind shear.
- Detailed weather exercises.
- Radio aids -- VOR, ADF, ILS, DME and GPS.
- Air traffic control procedures and communication.
- Airmanship including Canadian Runway Friction Index (CRFI), VASIS & PAPI and approach lighting.
- Review sample exam questions and exam writing techniques
Course details
- Friday, Saturday and Sunday 0900 to 1730.
- Canadian Instrument Rating Workbook is available for purchase, $56.66 plus GST and shipping, when registering for an IFR Seminar ($65.95 retail value)

These reference questions are to be used in conjunction with the 5th Edition IFR workbook published by Aero Course. The material is for personal study use only and is not to be used for instruction without prior consent from Aero Course.

Inrat practice exam
Registration fee
A non-refundable $100 deposit is required for registration in the course. It has been charged to your Visa or MasterCard number given at the time of registration. If for some reason you are unable to attend the course, you must cancel or re-schedule for another course or the deposit can be held for one year from the original date of registration. (If you do not cancel your registration or reschedule, you are responsible for the full payment of the course). At the time of registration the workbook was available for purchase from Aero Course at a discounted rate and if purchased at that time, it has also been charged to your credit card. The balance owing will be billed to your credit card 72 hours before the course.
Aero Course guarantee
We hope everyone feels prepared and passes their exam after course completion. However, if a student takes the exam within three months of taking the course and does not pass, Aero Course will allow a course to be re-taken for no additional charge within one year of the original course date. If within the first three months after the original course a student feels they are not ready to write the exams, they can retake the course for a nominal fee. After three months, the re-take fee for the course is half price from the current course fee for a period of five years from the original course date. Any time a new workbook is required there will be charge for the workbook.
Course cancellation
If Aero Course cancels the course, your deposit will be refunded.
Receipts
Tax receipts and course certificates are sent out after the course is complete - usually within a couple of weeks. Please notify our office of any address changes.
Parking
We do our best to find facilities that have free parking, however some facilities have paid parking only. You may want to check with the facility personnel to determine parking fees.

Retaking a course
The retake policy set by AeroCourse is that if a student writes the exam within three months of taking a course and fails the exam, then they may retake the course for no charge. If they write the exam after the three-month period and fail or do not write the exam then to retake the course is half price, plus the workbook if necessary.
If a student wishes to retake the course within the three-month time frame, space permitting, there is a nominal charge to do so. To qualify for the retake policy for a failed exam a student must retake our course within 1 year. The half-price retake policy is limited to 5 years after taking the original course.
